I Swore I'd Never Come Here

Here's a short synopsis written by Emma Chambers:

SHE SWORE SHE’D NEVER COME HERE

Nova Brantley’s parents invented time travel, yet she lives in the present. At only thirteen years old, Nova had to make the toughest decision of her life: travel with her parents through time, or risk never seeing them again by staying in the present. She’s never known whether the choices she’s made, like the choice of quitting her job this morning, were the right ones. That job was the reason she stayed in the present. It’s what made staying in the present worth it. That’s over now.

SHE IS HERE, TRULY DESPERATE, WITH NO OTHER OPTION

Nova finds herself standing in front of the Time Clinic, a place that offers therapy through reliving certain events in ones past. Will she get the answers she’s searching for, or will this be another decision she regrets?

More about "I Swore I'd Never Come Here"

This story is about using time travel as a form of therapy. The idea is that looking at your past can help you resolve the problems of your present. In the story, you go through this therapy as a woman with a traumatic backstory that still haunts her. I wanted to show that those bad moments that stick out in our memories might be moments that changed our lives. Sometimes I wonder how much weight would be lifted off our shoulders if we could look back at those moments of vulnerability. They may not be so dramatic, but they are important nevertheless. Even the smallest choices that we make in those moments can have big outcomes.
